Transit-oriented developments (TODs) are filling a housing gap on Long Island for younger residents and empty nesters alike, Newsday reported, featuring residents of The Core at Station Yards in Ronkonkoma.
- Who’s moving in: young professionals who can’t yet afford a Manhattan apartment or a suburban house, and older residents trading home maintenance for community
- What draws them: on-site gyms and studios, nearby restaurants and shops, and a short walk to the Ronkonkoma LIRR station
“Young people want to have this lifestyle where they’re near a train station, in an apartment,” said Matthew Cohen, CEO of the Long Island Association.
