Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank has been on a mission to feed Long Island’s food insecure and stamp out the root causes of hunger since its founding by Harry Chapin in 1980. The organization provides nutritional food and support services for a network of more than 374 community-based member agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veterans’ services programs, and more.
In 2021, the food bank distributed 14 million pounds of food – the equivalent of 11.5 million meals. Despite the incredible effort, the need on Long Island is great. Many Long Islanders struggle with the high cost of living and the effects of inflation on the economy.
TRITEC is committed to working with communities to create positive and lasting change. For example, we recently continued our relationship with Long Island Cares’ by volunteering at their Hauppauge warehouse to help give back and fight hunger in our neighborhoods. Our staff sorted and packed canned food, fresh produce, and food supplies for the recipients of the Food Bank on Long Island.
Long Island Cares relies on community support to raise awareness, money and donate food to those in need. You can make a difference in the lives of others by giving back to your local community through Long Island Cares. Learn more about the many ways to give with Long Island Cares.
