FIRST LOOK: Brightview Port Jefferson

Brightview Senior Living Port Jeff

Brightview Senior Living Community is a new 184,000-square-foot continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Port Jefferson, N.Y.

It will comprise 94 independent living units, 50 assisted living units, and 26 memory care units located in a specialty dementia wing.

Using the aesthetic of the local region, the building exterior has been designed to emulate a traditional Long Island beach house with a traditional shingle style and round port windows.

Inside, due to site configuration, the design required a creative layout to achieve the community’s goals. Those include delivering a residential feel to break up the large building mass while also achieving plentiful outdoor spaces.

To achieve the latter, Brightview Port Jefferson includes four courtyards. The first courtyard is focused on community activity and working together. It includes a central community garden that is connected to an indoor potting room for year-round activity.

The next courtyard has a sports focus by including a golf putting green and bocce ball court for the more competitive residents. A third green space offers a place of leisure with friends.

Additionally, an indoor/outdoor pub space complete with outdoor dining for the residents extends into the fourth courtyard. There, the atmosphere is completed with water features and a fireplace for the residents to relax outside.

The final community outdoor space is a dedicated haven for the memory care wing. Despite being a secured courtyard, memory care residents can enjoy the same activities as independent living and assisted living residents.

Other amenities include an indoor/outdoor coffee bar with a wraparound deck, multiple dining venues, movie theater, art studio, sewing room, game room, library, hair salon, and a fitness center.
