TRITEC Building Company renovated a 60-year-old 19,000 square foot convent at St. Dominic Parish, in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York, to a modern Science and Technology Center.
Renovations to the convent include six (6) new science labs with prep rooms, a virtual classroom, chemical storage rooms, offices, and nine (9) new restrooms. The chapel was converted to a sound studio, and the terrace made into a greenhouse. A reflection room was constructed on the third floor, showcasing the chapel's original stained glass windows and light fixtures. An elevator and a handicap ramp were added to the building connecting the new sound studio with the school. All of the new classrooms have a rubber floorcovering with cold weld seams, and the corridors have cork rubber flooring for noise control. Exterior building enhancements include new structural steel framed awnings with translucent Kalwall roof panels constructed at three entrances.
TRITEC installed three high-tech condensing furnaces and a water heater, run on a new building management system. A chiller and rooftop air handling units supply new fan coils and unit ventilators throughout the building. TRITEC upgraded the utility service including, new switchgear for the electric service, lightning protection, fire alarm control panel, water main, and rpz. A fire sprinkler system with double check valves was installed throughout the entire structure.
