For the second year in a row, the Village of Lindenhurst received the Smart Growth Award. The 2021 award was presented by Eric Alexander, director of Vision Long Island and the Long Island Main Street Alliance, to Mayor Michael Lavorata, along with an award to the team at Tritec for their development of The Wel apartment complex on East Hoffman Avenue. The Smart Growth Awards program recognizes achievements by local leaders who promote smart growth planning, and projects that assist in revitalizing downtown business districts. In spite of the pandemic, 13 new businesses have opened in Lindenhurst Village during the past year. Mayor Lavorata said, “The Village’s efforts have helped create, and sustain, a new prosperous local economy, and a thriving Lindenhurst Community.”
