TRITEC strives to create the most environmentally conscious and economically sustainable project that is feasible. One of the greatest environmental perks to a mixed-use project in a walkable downtown is a lower carbon footprint. Instead of people getting in their cars, people walk and bike; at New Village they have immediate access to restaurants and mass transportation. TRITEC and Bozzuto both try to foster a sense of community and encourage residents to come together for a common good. Earth Day and green initiatives have been inspiring people to lower their carbon footprint and create a healthier environment for decades. New Village at Patchogue wanted to provide opportunities for residents to help the environment and come together as a community.
During the month of April, the New Village team focused on sustainable efforts and promoting a healthy green mentality. We made changes to our hospitality station, switching over to fruits and health bars and held yoga events in the community room. On Earth Day, April 22nd, we invited New Village residents to a Bring Your Own Mug (B.Y.O.M.) event. This evening event was an opportunity for friends, neighbors, and family to jointly conserve energy and enjoy some electronic-free time together. We asked each resident to power down his or her apartments and electronic devices and join the New Village staff at one of the building fire pits. Roast, a small family owned coffee roaster, located in the heart of Patchogue Village, set up coffee station and residents brought their own mugs not to create waste. While everyone recharged with a delicious cup or two of Roast coffee, the person with the best mug won a sustainable gift package filled with energy efficient light bulbs. During the evening the New Village team handed out mason jars, soil and seeds, so residents could start their own herb gardens.
The event was an overwhelming success, saving energy, supporting local business and bringing people together for a few laughs. We can’t wait for the events coming up later this year at New Village and to do this again next Earth Day!
