What is workforce housing? Many people do not know the answer because it is one of the most misunderstood terms, but the answer is simple. Workforce housing is a program designed to assist households afford quality homes in proximity to their employment centers. Based on the applicant’s income, the program provides an opportunity to live, work and play on Long Island. The New Village at Patchogue offers workforce housing which is run through the Long Island Housing Partnership. Workforce rents are calculated based on the area median income (AMI) for Nassau/Suffolk Counties and dependent upon apartment size. Workforce apartments are made available to those households earning at or below 80% AMI as well as to those households earning between 80% and 85% of AMI.
